I think I'm onto something here...

Every culture has a food that makes everyone else in the world go WTF?!? and raise their eyebrows. wait...wait...let me explain...

Like okay...Koreans have Kimchi...I mean...that's a dish that makes even ME go WTF...take cabbage, hot peppers, tomatos, garlic, horseradish and other sundry fun things, stick it in an airtight jar and seal it...take said jar and stick it in the darkest corner of your basement/closet, and when you can smell it...it's done. That's a big ol' what the hell...I mean, it's good eats, and yummy...but y'know...I've seen other people look at me, smell the kimchi and scoot at least six feet in any direction AWAY from me...

And Japanese...with their sashimi...(that's pure raw fish...no rice, no fancy seaweed...just the fish)...that makes so many people I know go EWWWW...

And Pickled Pigs Feet? or Pickled Herring? Please...it's like...people in these cultures came up with these just so they could say...oooh...look at this...and think of how grossed out our neighbors will be when they see us eating it!

Then again, there's the ol' 'every culture has their version of meat stew' theory as well...

It's just a wierd thought...and if you can think of a wierd food from your cultural background, you should let me know

I love sashimi!

Menudo absolutely disgusts many of my friends, but it smells like Sunday mornings to me.

The entire Peasant foods category at Wikipedia has foods I think are considered "weird cultural foods".

Well, the Viet side of me has nuoc mam, fish sauce. it's kinda fermented too. There's other weird smelly fruits, dog (yes, i've had that, and it tastes like lamb), butterfly larvae. And there's always snails and frog's legs from the French side.

yum. :)
